We review plans for all new construction, additions, and renovations in State-owned* facilities. Please note there is no project size limitation for Code compliance purposes. Some of the most egregious Code issues we see are encountered in relatively small, low cost projects. They may include security modifications that delay or impede building egress, wall/door changes causing excessive dead end or egress travel distance, "minor" kitchen layout modifications that impact the effectiveness of exhaust hood fire suppression systems, or may add combustible elements inside buildings required to be of non-combustible or fire resistive construction. Therefore, we do not have a cost or size threshold for review, as all projects except cosmetic work have the potential for presenting life safety, fire protection, accessibility, or other issues. Please contact us if in doubt about whether any project has to be submitted for review. In many cases a phone call, FAX, or e-mail with a simple sketch or description of what is planned will enable us to determine if our review is required.

* This does not include any Community College or public school projects, as those facilities are owned by local government entities and the State Property Code Services Section does only State-owned facilities. However, General Statutes may require another part of DOI to review them.
